Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications(CQUPT), one of the birthplaces of Chinese Digital Communication, is the only university with TD-SCDMA 3G mobile communications standard and its whole set of core technologies, and the only university in China's TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance. It has reaped fruits in mobile communications, optical communications and optical Internet, computer science and technology, automotive electronics, management and social science, and has formed the characteristics of independent innovation.

In the 1970s, CQPUT developed the first set of Road 24, 30/32 pulse encoder and Road 120 multiplexer equipment and supporting instruments in accordance with the ITU standard, and in 1978 it won the National Science Conference Award. In the 1980s it carried out the national key "the 7th-Five Year” scientific and technological projects "TDM/FDM60 Road multiplexing switching equipment research." In 1992 it won the second prize for national science and technology progress. Since 1998, the university is responsible for the development of the core network part of the TD-SCDMA 3G mobile communications standards as a main research member, which was identified as one of the three G standards by the International Telecommunication Union and became China's first international standard in a 100-year history of telecommunications development and thus won a second in National Scientific and Technological Progress Award of 2002. On this basis, it has successfully developed the world's first a 0.13-micron TD-SCDMA mobile phone chip to solve our country's TD-SCDMA terminal technology bottleneck, which has won the "2005 Chinese University 10 Major Scientific and Technological Progresses ", and the Chongqing Municipal Technological Invention of the year 2007. Also, "Industrial Measurement and Control EPA Communications System Standards" with CQUPT as a core member in the making of it, has resolved a series of key technical problems and realized original technological innovation, and become China's first international standard in the field of industrial automation with independent intellectual property rights recognized by the IECs.

In recent years, it has more than 700 articles published and selected by SCI, EI, undertaken over 400 provincial, ministerial and national research projects with the research funding amounting to 100 million yuan, has won more than 60 ministerial and national scientific and technological achievement awards. In the new five-year plan, the university will mark out a scientific research strategy of "independent innovation, combination of production and learning", work hard for significant breakthroughs in scientific research bases and the teams, major projects and achievements, combination of production, learning and research and transformation of research results, and advances its own scientific and technological innovative capability on a full scale .
